Organized in May each year, Passport DC shines a light on the thriving diplomatic community of Washington, DC and its integral role in the cultural fabric of the national capital. Close to 200 foreign missions and cultural institutions open their doors to visitors, inviting them to share their culture, music, food and art. The month-long festival also features embassy events, street festivals and various performances.

State Department Bids Farewell to Nine Departing Foreign Ambassadors
The last three months of 2021 saw the departure of nine foreign ambassadors to the United States.
Between October and December, the following ambassadors completed their tour of duty in Washington, according to the State Department: Madjid Bouguerra (Algeria); Chum Sounry (Cambodia); François Nkuna Balumuene (DR Congo); Mamadou Haidara (Côte d’Ivoire); Vince Henderson (Dominica); Gilad Erdan (Israel); Mahamadou Nimaga (Mali); Yuba Raj Khatiwada (Nepal) and Piotr Wilczek (Poland).
A statement from the Office of the Chief of Protocol offered gratitude to the nine ambassadors “for their service, and for furthering diplomatic ties between our countries.”
Iraq’s Fareed Yasseen Given 2021 ‘Ambassador of the Year’ Award
The National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce (NUSACC) recognized Iraq’s Fareed Yasseen as its 2021 “Ambassador of the Year” at an awards ceremony and luncheon at Washington’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
The event, which attracted 150 people, including 20 current and former ambassadors.
