Black Book | Summer 2026

August 13, 2026

It’s summer, and that means it’s time for a scoop (or two) of ice cream. You don’t have to be a child to be excited for the seasonal treat, and if you happen to be in one of these cities – and the heat is rising – let your adult taste buds go wild.

Gelato: Vero Latte, Vigevano PV, Italia. Often cited as Italy’s very best, this gelateria is known for its exceptional texture, balance of flavors, and meticulous use of fresh, seasonal ingredients, often placing ahead of long‑established rivals across the country.

Dondurma: Maraş dondurmacı – Pamars, Kahramanmaraş, Türkiye. As the birthplace of traditional Maraş dondurma, this highly rated classic shop is known for its authentic, chewy texture and deep, rich flavor. It’s a must‑try where the dessert’s history began.

Mochi: Gekko, Tokyo, Japan. Gekko is known for freshly prepared mochi, pounded over 400 times per batch for ideal chewiness and balance. They offer both sweet and savory varieties in a traditional setting paired with Japanese tea.

Kulfi: Kuremal’s Mohanlal Kulfi Wale, Delhi, India. This shop is iconic and widely regarded as the very best traditional kulfi shops in India. Established in 1906, it’s famous for its authentic, richly flavored and creamy kulfis served in classic styles like malai, kesar‑pista, and fruit‑infused varieties.

Helado: Cadore Gelato Artigianale, Buenos Aires, Argentina. One of the very best places to taste traditional Argentine helado, this shop is family‑run, founded in 1957, and recognized internationally for its dense texture and legendary flavors like dulce de leche, pistachio, and sambayón.
